A Cherished Memento
Few things are as cherished as a wedding gown. With the careful planning that goes into selecting the perfect gown, many brides choose to heirloom their dress as a keepsake. A properly preserved gown preserves the dream of passing it down to a daughter or close family friend.
Hidden Soiling
While a cheap wedding dress may be worn just one day, and may not appear soiled, it will require careful cleaning. Hidden soiling includes perspiration and body oils. Long gowns will pick up soil along the hemline and train and very likely, there will be food and beverage spills. Some stains which are not immediately visible, will develop with age through oxidisation causing discolouration, fabric weakness and damage to the gown.
A Practical Approach
Aside from the sentimental reasons, the equally important practical reasons for having your gown cleaned and preserved include:
• Your modest wedding dress was an expensive purchase and should be protected for the future.
• Gowns left hanging in the closet develop weakened stitches and seams and may permanently “sag” over time
•Bridal gowns not properly cleaned, quickly “stain” and “brown” from the perspiration, natural body oils, and food or beverage spills that may not be immediately visible to you after the wedding.
• Un-preserved gowns oxidise (turn yellow) over time and are subject to additional damage caused by humidity, mould, mildew, or insects. Read More>>
