4/30/2008 - Wedding Tips |
Looking for affordable bridesmaid dresses? Try shopping for them during the holiday season - but not in expensive bridal salons. Department stores such Sears, for example, generally carry an excellent selection of glamorous ****tail and evening dresses as the season for parties approaches - but at much lower prices than what you'd pay for similar "bridesmaid dresses" in a bridal boutique. With just a quick look though a local department store before firing off this tip, I was able to find an array of gorgeous styles priced at a mere $49! An entire world of fabulous finds can definitely be ound for well under $100. So when the season of good cheer rolls around, it's time to grab your girls and hit the mall! If rock bottom prices are what you have in mind, here's an even better suggestion: Scour the stores towards the end of the holiday season when prices are being heavily marked down, and cash in on the clearance sales for even greater savings!
Number those reply cards! Many a bride has a huge headache on her hands when, as sometimes happens, the occasional reply card is sent back with no names filled in. Clearly an oversight on the part of the guest who sent it, but how do you figure out who on earth it came from? Here's a little trick which will ensure that you avoid this problem all together - place a small, inconspicuous number on the back of each reply card before enclosing it with the invitation. Use a list to record each guest's name along with the number on the reply card you are enclosing for them. That way, if someone should forget to fill in their name, a quick glance at your list will tell you precisely who the reply belongs to.
Making your own wedding invitations? Save money by using reply postcards instead of the usual reply cards with envelopes. Postage rates for postcards are about 13 cents less than the rate for stamping envelopes (Remember, you must pre-stamp the reply cards for your guests!) Plus, by using postcards you'll also save the expense of envelopes. Simply print the response information on one side of the card, and your wedding dress on the other side.

4/30/2008 - Solar panel |
| A solar panel is a collection of solar cells. Although each solar cell provides a relatively small amount of power, many solar cells spread over a large area can provide enough power to be useful. To get the most power, solar panels have to be pointed directly at the Sun. Spacecraft are built so that the solar panels can be pivoted as the spacecraft moves. Thus, they can always stay in the direct path of the light rays no matter how the spacecraft is pointed. Spacecraft are usually designed with solar panels that can always be pointed at the Sun, even as the rest of the body of the spacecraft moves around, much as a tank turret can be aimed independently of where the tank is going. A tracking mechanism is often incorporated into the solar arrays to keep the array pointed towards the sun.
Solar panels need to have a lot of surface area that can be pointed towards the Sun as the spacecraft moves. More exposed surface area means more electricity can be converted from light energy from the Sun. Sometimes, satellite scientists purposefully orient the solar panels to "off point," or out of direct alignment from the Sun. This happens if the batteries are completely charged and the amount of electricity needed is lower than the amount of electricity made. The extra power will just be vented by a shunt into space as heat.
Solar panels are very hardy. Compared to alternative power sources, they wear out very slowly. The principal factor affecting the loss in power with time is the Space radiation environment. For low radiation environments, such as low Earth orbiting, their effectiveness decreases around 1 to 2 percent a year. This means after a five year mission the solar panels will still be making more than 90% of what they made at the beginning of the mission (as long as they haven't gotten farther away from the Sun). In contrast, for missions in higher radiation environments, such as mid altitude Earth orbit (2000 to 10000 kilometers), arrays can lose half their power within 1 year. That is one reason few missions fly in this orbital range.

4/21/2008 - Bridesmaids Dresses |
|
Listen up, brides. Don't attempt to dress your maids in some puffy-sleeved, kelly green, satin-and-lace confection that makes them look pallid, plump, and sexless. (Trust us, it's been done.) Try to remember that these are your bestest friends in the whole world, and since they are most likely paying for them, it would be great it they could wear their outfits again.
Here are some dos, don'ts, and basic truths to consider when choosing your bridesmaid dresses:
Do Try to find a style and color that is flattering to the different sizes and skin tones of your bridesmaids.
Do Try to keep the price at something that everyone can afford. $200 is a good figure to keep in mind, but if you can do it for less, everyone will be happier.
Do Consider letting your bridesmaids wear clothing of their own choice. What you lose in uniformity will be made up for in comfort and happiness, which will be apparent in the way they carry themselves and smile. A variation on this theme is to let them wear casual wedding dresses of their own choosing as long as they are a certain color.
Do Consider dress length: Formal and semiformal weddings call for long, ballerina-length, or tea-length dresses. At an informal or daytime wedding, bridesmaid dresses can be the same length as the bride's dress, short or long.
A few more words of advice:
Do consider body types -- if one maid is voluptuous, another's rail-thin and yet another is tiny and boyish, you can't wedge them all into something skin-tight or cleavage-revealing. Very few figures are flattered by a big old contrasting-color bow on the butt or hundreds of tiny, ballooning pleats. Simple, elegant designs are the most flattering to all figures.
Don't put everyone in seafoam green, sweetie. Perhaps you have your wedding colors in mind, but are these really colors you would ask your friends to wrap themselves in? Be careful about colors that rarely occur in nature, or only on football uniforms. Remember, some colors are truly neutral -- navy blue and even black are good choices for formal weddings.
Doremember your friends aren't filthy rich. They don't buy bridesmaids dresses that look terrible on them and toss them out after one occasion, just for laughs. Think about dresses they could REALLY wear again.
Above all, you want your friends to like you before, during, and after the ceremony. Our best advice: Don't jump on a trend without thinking of how your friends will feel and look.

4/13/2008 - Wedding gifts |
The problem with preselected wedding gifts are that they very often come with a high price tag, therefore people who are on a tight budget may find this a daunting prospect. Often some guests may find this a little cheeky and so opt to buy something of their own choice.
Ask mutual friends what their restaurant preferences are. As for the amount you choose for the gift certificate, that will have to do with the restaurant. Guests have a happy knack of not attaching cards very well to gifts, so ask your friend or family member to check that these are firmly attached, so as to avoid the horror of not knowing whom to thank for the tenth toaster! It should also be this person?s task to ensure that gift vouchers/cheques/cash etc. The best man is usually the grooms most trustworthy and faithful friend or relative. The ushers may be the grooms brothers, cousin, or best friends, or brothers and close relatives of the bride.
You might feel that creating a list seems greedy, you're not expecting your guests to buy gifts. You don't need to even let people know that you have a list unless they ask ? and if they're asking, then they've already decided to buy you a gift!! Your guests will love your registry as much as you do.
Personalized Photo Mugs can be used as creative wedding invitations with a modern twist. Alternatively use them as a save the date reminder or thank those closest to you for making your wedding day so special. Put your favourite photo or person on a printable jigsaw puzzle. All you need to do is choose your photo or image and the text that you want and you can create a personalized mug especially for you in full color. Fed up with people getting your drink wrong? Outdoor solar lighting can help you achieve your goals and more. When it comes to outdoor lighting, not only do you want to brighten up your house and yard at night, but you also want maintain the safety of your family, the security of your house and your electricity bill. The solar option is the best low voltage outdoor lighting option.
Of course, the primary motivation to installing outdoor lighting is to improve visibility at night. A close second is security. Therefore, the first thing you need to consider is the level of brightness you want. Some outdoor solar lighting options may not be bright enough for your liking. As you search your options be sure to keep this in mind. If you are not too concerned about security, but just want something to light up the path or provide beauty, then you need not worry about brightness when looking for outdoor solar lighting. This low voltage outdoor lighting option will be ideal for your needs.
So why is outdoor solar lighting the best option? First of all, this low voltage outdoor solar light option is just that... low voltage. A huge concern with outdoor lighting is the danger of electrocution it presents. Even if the wiring is done professionally and up to code, there is still a risk of accident. Outdoor solar lighting is low voltage and doesn't present any danger. Though you should be careful regardless of the voltage level, especially if you have a pacemaker.
Another reason why outdoor solar lighting is a good option is because it doesn't use any electricity. Here's how it works. Small solar panels connected to the lights charge internal batteries during the day. Then at night, either by a sensor that triggers at dark or by a switch you control, the lights come on to illuminate its area. The batteries run down at night and then are recharged the next day. The batteries of outdoor solar lighting can even recharge during overcast days. What a way to take it easy on the environment and your wallet.
If you are looking for a low voltage outdoor lighting option then outdoor solar lighting is a good option that you should consider.

4/7/2008 - Shopping Coral jewelry |

4/7/2008 - Care for your wedding gown |
|
A Cherished Memento
Few things are as cherished as a wedding gown. With the careful planning that goes into selecting the perfect gown, many brides choose to heirloom their dress as a keepsake. A properly preserved gown preserves the dream of passing it down to a daughter or close family friend.
Hidden Soiling
While a cheap wedding dress may be worn just one day, and may not appear soiled, it will require careful cleaning. Hidden soiling includes perspiration and body oils. Long gowns will pick up soil along the hemline and train and very likely, there will be food and beverage spills. Some stains which are not immediately visible, will develop with age through oxidisation causing discolouration, fabric weakness and damage to the gown.
A Practical Approach
Aside from the sentimental reasons, the equally important practical reasons for having your gown cleaned and preserved include:
• Your modest wedding dress was an expensive purchase and should be protected for the future.
• Gowns left hanging in the closet develop weakened stitches and seams and may permanently “sag” over time
•Bridal gowns not properly cleaned, quickly “stain” and “brown” from the perspiration, natural body oils, and food or beverage spills that may not be immediately visible to you after the wedding.
• Un-preserved gowns oxidise (turn yellow) over time and are subject to additional damage caused by humidity, mould, mildew, or insects. Read More>>

4/3/2008 - Care for your pearl jewelry |
Pearls are organic gemstones that are vulnerable to acid, alkaline and different humidity levels. Perfume and hairspray, which contain alcohol and harmful acids, should be avoided on the areas where pearls are worn.
Perspiration can also harm the beauty of pearls, dulling their beautiful luster. Therefore, after wearing them, they should be wiped with a damp (not wet), soft cloth or a silicon cloth.
Be careful not to dip pearls in water or wear them while bathing, as water can weaken the silk thread. Do not leave them in direct sunlight or expose them to high temperatures. If pearls happen to come into contact with substances such as vinegar, fruit juices or detergents, immediately wipe that substance off.
Even though pearl jewelries are exceptionally cohesive and shock-resistant, they rank only 3.5 to 4.5 on the Mohs hardness scale, so they may be scratch by contact with sharp objects or other gemstones.

4/3/2008 - The future of solar power |
An advantage to solar power is that it can reduce expenses. It can also be portable. When one is backpacking in the wilderness or traveling far from power grids, solar power can provide a means of powering electronic equipment.
Another advantage is, of course, the lack of pollution created by solar energy production. In fact, if all of our electrical energy were produced by such means, we might not be worrying about global warming and the other destructive effects of pollution on our environment.
These threats to our environment also pose a threat to mankind. Solar power could be developed to a point where it, along with other forms of renewable energy, would replace harmful means of electricity production.
It isn't necessarily impossible to have a clean and safe Earth. And now, there are several solar powered products that are widely used ,such as solar water heater, solar panel, solar light and so on. If you are interested in solar energy and its products, you could go to take : www.solarenjoy.com . It’s the whole world of solar related information and products there.

3/30/2008 - The Challenge of Cooking With a Solar Oven |
| Cooking with a solar oven is an energy-efficient, pollution-free way to help fight global warming and take advantage of nature's free, inexhaustible energy supply.
As the world's population increases and nonrenewable sources of energy for cooking dwindle (e.g., firewood in Asia and Africa) or seriously damage the ozone layer (e.g., fossil fuels), the need to adopt clean, renewable energy sources and devices that utilize these sources grows ever more critical. solar ovens are one answer.
Home appliances are the world's fastest growing consumers of energy, second only to automobiles. Items such as stoves, ovens, and refrigerators account for 30 percent of electricity use in industrial countries and 12 percent of their greenhouse gas emissions. In the United States, an estimated 5 percent of its fossil fuel consumption is dedicated to the cooking and distribution of food. A portion of that energy expenditure could be eliminated by using solar ovens.
In developing countries, greenhouse gas emissions from cooking originate from sources other than fossil fuel, especially fuel wood. In recent years, several organizations have been setting up solar ovens for families in Africa, Asia, Mexico, and Central and South America, where people have long depended on the now rapidly vanishing firewood supply. Solar power cooking has significantly improved the lives of tens of thousands of people, allowing them to not only prepare nutritious food for their families but to purify drinking water, treat infectious medical waste, and preserve (dry) food. Yet many, many more solar ovens are needed in these countries to prevent further destruction of remaining forests, reduce pollution, and support family health.
The massive contribution to global warming by the United States and other major energy-consuming nations highlights the need for pollution-free alternatives to ozone-depleting technology. Solar ovens are just one part of the alternative energy picture, but one that is accessible to a great majority of people.
A reliable solar oven can be built from everyday materials in just a few hours or purchased ready made. Solar ovens can be used to prepare anything that can be made in a conventional oven or stove ?from baked bread to steamed vegetables to roasted meat. Solar ovens allow you to do it all, without contributing to global warming or heating up the kitchen and placing additional demands on cooling systems. Nearly 75 percent of US households prepare at least one hot meal per day; one-third prepare two or more, according to the Residential Energy Consumption Survey. You can make some of those meals in a solar oven.

3/30/2008 - Tips for Men to Buy Jewelry for Women |
| One of the hardest things a man has to face is trying to buy jewelry for the woman he loves. Woman can be very picky and most often have a specific idea of what kind of jewelry they want. It is hard for men to determine which type of jewelry is best suited for their love, so we’ve compiled a list of tips to help a man shop for women’s jewelry. When shopping for women’s jewelry , keep the following in mind:
1. Bigger does not necessarily mean better. Woman always talk about how big the gemstone is when it comes to jewelry. However, a bigger stone does not technically mean that your loved one is going to like it. Listen to her. She has probably dropped a million hints as to which types of pearl jewelry she prefers. Listening is the best way to ensure she gets what she wants.
2. The price tag is irrelevant. Okay, lets be realistic, it’s not completely irrelevant but it’s definitely not as important as some men think. Just because you spent a fortune on a piece of jewelry, it does not mean she’s going to like it. If you can find a piece of jewelry which suits her preferences but has a smaller price tag than some of the other pieces, she’ll probably be happier with the less expensive piece in the end.
3. Find out her size before you purchase. This is especially crucial for bracelets and rings. Although it is not a huge deal if the jewelry doesn’t fit, buying a piece which fits her properly will show her that you’ve taken the time and effort to do it right. Furthermore, when women receive silver jewelry they can’t wait to put it on and having to wait for it to get altered can put a damper on the experience.
4. Real is better than fake. This may sound stuck-up but it’s definitely true. I think I speak for all women when I say that she would much prefer a small authentic gem to a large fake one. The price is still irrelevant but if you can get a small real one for the same price as a large fake one, most women will opt for the genuine gem.
5. Ask her friends. Girls always talk about this kind of thing so chances are her friends will have all the information you need to find the perfect piece of jewelry for her. Just make sure that if it is meant as a surprise you let them know ahead of time, otherwise your girlfriend will know what you plan on doing before you have a chance to purchase anything.
It can’t be easy finding the perfect piece of jewelry for your loved one and I don’t envy anyone who has to face this process. Try to follow the tips listed above as best you can and have fun with it. She’ll love anything you choose for her and she will be even happier that you chose it yourself. As noted above, the best way to ensure she likes what you buy for her is to listen for hints she may be sending and then implement these hints into the shopping process. If she loves you, she’ll love whatever you choose. For more information, please visit :

The magnificent luster and delicate translucence of the layers of a pearl imparts an exquisite charm to it. It has therefore been valued as a precious gemstone since ages. The value of the pearl in jewelry is determined by a combination of all the attributes i.e. the luster, color, size, lack of surface flaw and symmetry. Among those attributes, the most important factor of pearl quality according to jewelers is luster. If however for the pearls under consideration, all the factors are equal, the larger the pearl the more valuable it is. The most precious pearls are the large, perfectly round pearls. They are rare and are therefore highly valued. Usually the shape of a pearl decides as to which jewellery item it is suited for. Teardrop-shaped pearls are used in pendants and earrings. Irregular shaped pearls are often used in necklaces. The variety of designs in pearl jewelry is innumerable.
Pearls are found in eight basic shapes: round, semi-round, button, drop, pear, oval, baroque, and ringed. Perfectly round pearls are the rarest and most expensive, and are generally used in necklaces, or strings of pearls. Semi-rounds are also used in necklaces or in pieces where the shape of the pearl can be disguised to look like it is a perfectly round pearl. Button pearls are like a slightly flattened round pearl and can also make a necklace, but are more often used in single pendants or earrings where the rear half of the pearl is covered, making it look like a larger, round pearl. Drop and pear shaped pearls are sometimes referred to as teardrop pearls and are most often used in earrings, pendants, or as a center pearl in a necklace. Baroque pearls have irregular shapes and this is what makes them unique and interesting. The appeal of baroque pearls lies in the fact that they do not have standard shapes. Generally they are used to make necklaces. Ringed pearls are characterized by concentric ridges, or rings, around the body of the pearl. All varieties of pearls have their own charm and can be put to several imaginative uses while making jewelry.
Generally speaking, natural pearls are much more valuable than cultured pearls because of their rarity. Imitation pearls are the least expensive. To check whether a pearl is natural or cultured we have to perform an X- ray on the pearl. Cultured pearls will show a perfectly rounded core whereas naturals will have an irregular core. This is because when a pearl is to be cultured the farmers insert the grit, (usually a polished piece of mussel shell); it is always perfectly round, so as to produce a more expensive, perfectly round pearl. If the centre is not perfectly round, the jeweler can recognize that it is genuine, and will rate it at a higher value. Jewelers can easily identify imitation pearls. Some imitation pearls are simply made of mother-of-pearl, coral or conch, while others are made from glass and are coated with a solution containing fish scales called essence d'Orient. Imitation pearls may look good initially but they do not have the same weight or smoothness as real pearls, and will lose their luster with the passage of time.
